The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) ensures that you have access to medical care according to the rules of the respective country. The EHIC is located on the back of your e-card.
To use the EHIC abroad, the fields on the back of the e-card must be fully filled out. If the fields are filled in with asterisks, it is not considered proof of entitlement.
The expiration date of your EHIC is linked to the duration of your insurance coverage. When the expiration date is reached, a new card will be automatically sent to you if you are still insured.
If you were not insured at the time of issuance of the e-card or were insured for a short period, some fields on the EHIC may be marked with asterisks. In this case, please request the issuance of a "Certificate as a provisional replacement for the EHIC" (PEB) from your health insurance provider before your trip.
